Pastor Ronnie Beams, Expansion Committee Chairman Jim Davis, Trustee Virgil Carter, Expansion Committee Members Guy Mettert, Phil Harris, Davey Moore, Barbara Carter, Mike Shields, Barry Fryman Ground Breaking March 26, 2006 Following our morning service on Sunday March 26, the Owingsville Baptist Church ‘broke ground’ in preparation for the 7750 square feet addition to the current building. In front of a small crowd, in a chilly wind, our Pastor, Trustees, and Expansion Committee turned the first shovels of dirt in anticipation of things to come. The congregation participated in a Responsive Reading and the Chairman of Deacons offered Prayer. The new addition will be two levels and will include children’s classrooms, offices, a fellowship hall, kitchen, bathrooms on both levels, and an elevator. The current structure, built in 1958, will change very little. The current church office will be incorporated into the vestibule and into a connection to the new addition. The church will be serving as its own contractor with Wendell Moore as Administrative Director and Guy Mettert as Building Superintendent. Excavation is expected to begin this week. Much of the work will be done by volunteer labor, not only ours but one large group called Oxford Nail-Benders is coming from Alabama. They will be here the last week of May and plan to put up the framework and put the building ‘under roof’. Your prayers are needed for safety for all of the workers and weather conducive to construction. Also be in prayer about how you too may be of service during building.
BUILDING EXPANSION ------------- THE LATEST ON PROGRESS 06/01/06 In May the electrical in the current building was changed to the new system. The footers were poured, the walls were poured and the floor was poured! Steel beams were erected. Thank you, Lord, for the great weather. WELCOME NAILBENDERS Nailbenders, the mission Group from Oxford, Alabama, arrived on Sunday May 28th in time for our evening service. We all enjoyed a time of fellowship with them afterward. They are working diligently to erect the frame and get our building under roof while they are here this week. What progress! It is looking great. Continue to pray for safety, progress and good weather. What a great opportunity to get to know fellow Christian friends as we come and work with them. For those who can’t ‘hammer’ or climb, there are boards to be carried and measured, scrap to pick up, floors to sweep. PARKING We were successful in purchasing the lot adjacent to our parking lot and have been able to put some dirt there. (It will need more.) The small garage on it is great for storing building materials. Remember to continue to park in nearby locations on Sunday Mornings. The Family Reach Center, Southern States and the banks’ parking lots may be used, as well as on street parking.
When God gives an assignment, it comes with His enablement.
------------- FOUND A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY When the drywall near the side entry was removed to work on electrical connections, a ‘time capsule’ was retrieved from inside the wall. It consisted of a bundle of papers, taped together and marked “News Events, Placed here by Mayor Robert W. Gilmore April 4th, 1978”. Rolled inside each other, the papers include: 1. Lexington Herald newspaper dated Friday March 31, 1978. 2. Multi-Housing News dated March 1978. 3. Appalachian dated Oct.-Nov. 1977, which includes pictures and article of Vice President Walter Mondale and articles by KY Governor Julian Carroll. 4 S.S. Cooperative Farmer dated January 1978, which included a great seed handbook. 5 Sears sale catalog with last date to order March 15, 1978. What a tremendous variety of merchandise and Oh, those prices! The wall is also signed “Built by Robt. W. Gilmore April 4th, 1978. This was the time frame when the ceiling was insulated and a new furnace and air conditioning installed in the church. |
