I'm so glad you stopped by to check out Owingsville Baptist Church.

I love our church and believe that you will love it too if you choose to come and worship with us sometime. It's easy for a pastor to say that he loves his church, but let me go one step further by telling you why I love Owingsville Baptist Church and in doing so, I hope to show you a little of what we are all about.

I want to point out three things to you that all make-up our mission statement - loving God, loving people, and seeking God's glory in all that we do:

When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, what did He say? Completely loving God. Everything else, He told us, stems from this foundation. At its core, obedience, sacrifice, ministry, etc. are all born out of love for God.

As a church we strive to let love for God infiltrate all we are and do. I've been in some churches where you can't tell if the people really love God (you may have been in that kind of church too), and that is not OBC! Our love for God is what drives our worship as we position ourselves to interact with an amazing God. It is what fuels our times of Bible study. And it is what knits us together as a church family. Although we are a diverse group of people with different opinions and ideas, we are bonded together in Christ.

The day when Jesus was asked what the (singular) greatest command was, He actually gave two. Unprovoked, He shared that the second greatest commandment was loving one's neighbor. Jesus wasn't trying for extra credit! He was communicating to us how these two commands are intertwined. You cannot have one without the other. If we truly love God, we will love what He loves - people. And the only way we will truly love people is if we love them with God's love.

At OBC, we emphasize ways we can show Owingsville, Bath County, Kentucky, and beyond that we love them. Our desire is to impact the whole person - physically, emotionally, and of course spiritually. According to the Bible, sharing the gospel is our primary activity with a lost and dying world. However, the Bible is equally clear that if we really love people - truly and honestly love them - that won't be enough! We will also want to improve their lives in other ways as well. So we are called to try to meet people's needs - all of them - the best we can.

We don't want to be known for the church with the best building. Or the best preaching. Or the best worship. We want to be known as the church which loves this community!

Loving God and loving people takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice, finances, and time. Why bother? Wouldn't it be easier to be a "typical" church that simply exists to keep the doors open and entertain the church membership? Well, yes it would be much easier. And we could probably do a better job at that. However, we cannot do that. We don't want to do that. The reason is because we are on a quest - an adventure - to experience God's glory! We believe that all of life exists to bring God glory. So all that we do and all that we have is to be used for this singular purpose.

When we set out to experience God's glory we soon realize that all of the sacrifices and effort are well worth it. The joy, meaning, purpose, and blessing of experiencing God at work makes it all worthwhile. And as we seek God's glory and experience it, we quickly find that it develops a deeper longing for more of His glory!

I hope that tells you a little more about us. Thanks again for stopping by. I hope that I get to meet you in person at some point.
